Thank you for tearing down the wall.

For over 90 days we constructed huge yellow ‘walls’ all over Australia to represent the Chinese internet censorship regime known as the Golden Shield or the Great Firewall of China. The first wall was in Melbourne on the 30th April and the last was in Sydney for the 10 day countdown to the Olympic Games, 31 July.

Check out the map to all of the towns and cities we visited along the way.

Why did we tear down walls?

Each brick of the wall holds an action aimed at the internet companies who enable censorship in China, such as Yahoo!, Google, Microsoft, Sohu and Baidu. These action cards call on the companies to stop assisting human rights violations.

So far we have sent over 10,000 cards to these companies with many more to be sent.

It’s not too late, you can create your own Firewall

Recreate the Great Firewall of China action at your school, university, local town centre, park, group meetings, office, shopping centres, anywhere you have permission!

Do-it-yourself Firewall kits are now available. The D.I.Y walls are easy to assemble, fun and recyclable. You can make the Walls to any size and with any budget. Order your kit today. We will send you stickers, cards, bricks, instructions. It’s free, it’s simple, and you’ll have fun defending the human right to freedom of expression.

As a grassroots organisation trying to reach huge companies it is important we get as many voices as possible behind our calls for change.
